.50 musket barrel thickness and design?

I am trying to design a black powder musket. I have the other details figured out but was wondering about a safe barrel thickness, as well as a safe breach plug (i have a good metal lathe). It would be .50, so half an inch with a quarter inch wall thickness. For the breach plug 3/4" deep threaded then welded on the back and lathed flush. The barrel would be made out of cold drawn material steel (any better ideas). To smooth the inside of it i would mount it in the lathe and put a half inch dowel in the tail-stock and turn it inside the barrel with some sort of polish on it. (don't just tell me i'm going to blow myself up because i want to learn how to do this safely) OK thanks in advance

"Cold drawn steel" is NOT sufficient specification.
There are hundreds of different steel alloys in use. Tensile strengths vary from 35 kpsi to 400+
You need to apprentice to a gunsmith; this is not a short answer type of question
